Vakhtang Licheli obtained his first degree at the Department of History at Tbilisi State University. In 1991 he defended his PhD on the theme - “Ancient Georgia in the System of the Hellenistic World”. He has been the Head of Igoeti (2008), Paravani (2004-2007), and Samckhe (1988-2008) archaeological expeditions. He was the director of the project Baku-Tbilisi Ceihan Pipeline - Georgian Cultural Heritage (1999-2003). Also, he has been the Head of Archaeological Service and the Vice-Director of The Centre for Archaeological Studies (1999-2003). Presently, he is a professor at Tbilisi State University and University of Georgia.  He published various articles: New Archaeological Publications in Georgia.
